Forgive Me Father 2 (PC) Review

I’ve been a bad, bad boy Father

Forgive Me Father 2 is the sequel to the Lovecraftian first-person shooter developed by Byte Barrel and published by Fulqrum Publishing. This game takes players on a journey into the darkest recesses of the mind, blending intense action with a haunting atmosphere. I’m not usually a fan of these ‘Doom’ type shooters, but this one had a great style and kept me coming back.

The game continues the story of a tormented veteran, delving deeper into the horrors of his mind. Players will navigate through a series of twisted nightmares, battling eldritch abominations and uncovering the protagonist’s traumatic past. The narrative is compelling, exploring themes of trauma, madness, and the thin line between reality and nightmare.

Price I’d Pay: $24.99

As I said in the beginning, Forgive Me Father 2 is heavily inspired by classic shooters like DOOM, offering fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action. Players will navigate through intricate, maze-like levels filled with enemies and environmental hazards. There are a variety of weapons and abilities, each with unique mechanics that add depth to the combat. Players can unlock new weapons and skills as they progress, allowing for a customizable experience that can be tailored to different playstyles.

The madness system is a standout feature, acting as both a power-up and a challenge modifier. As players succumb to madness, their abilities are enhanced, allowing for devastating attacks and increased survivability. However, this comes at a cost, as the increased difficulty can lead to more challenging encounters and unexpected enemy behavior.

Forgive Me Father 2 boasts impressive graphics, thanks to its use of Unreal Engine 5. The environments are richly detailed, with a dark, eerie aesthetic that perfectly complements the Lovecraftian theme. From dilapidated buildings to otherworldly landscapes, each location is meticulously designed to immerse players in the game’s unsettling atmosphere.

Performance-wise, the game ran smoothly on PC, with minimal technical issues. Which isn’t really surprising since it’s been in Early Access for almost a year. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the dope soundtrack that, Forgive Me Father 2 uses, with a haunting score that enhances the immersive experience. The music adapts dynamically to the gameplay, intensifying during combat and providing a chilling backdrop during exploration.

While I never played the original, Forgive Me Father 2 is a fantastic game. The game’s ability to blend classic shooter mechanics with Lovecraftian horror creates a unique and memorable experience. Whether you’re a fan of the original or new to the series, Forgive Me Father 2 offers a thrilling journey into madness that is not to be missed.

Terrence spends his time going where no one has gone before mostly. But when not planning to take over the galaxy, he spends his time raising Chocobo and trying to figure out just how the sarlaac could pull Boba Fett’s ship with its engines firing FULL BLAST into it’s maw with relative ease; yet it struggled with Han Solo who was gripping *checks notes* SAND!
