Indiana Jones and the New Console
Move aside Nathan Drake, the real adventurer who is better with his hands than guns, doesn’t make plans, finds historical relics and always comes out on top. That’s right PlayStation 5 owners; Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones has come to your system. This is the same great game that released on Xbox last year but rather than just simply porting the team at MachineGames actually have added quite a few new tricks to the PS5 version of the game.
Since this is essentially the exact same game that we got on Xbox last year, I am not going to spend a lot of time going over what you probably already know about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I mean, it’s an absolutely incredible experience not only as a huge Indiana Jones fan but as a gamer as well. The story is full of everything you would expect from an Indiana Jones film; world-hopping adventure, Nazi bad guys to punch out, big set pieces oh and some call backs to the movies and even Young Indy TV show.
MSRP: $69.99
Platforms: PlayStation (reviewed), Xbox, PC
Price I’d Pay: $69.99
One of my favorites comes during a thrilling chase while Indy is manning the machine gun nest of a plane. Of course, I inadvertently shoot out the tail and the pilot shouts, “what happened” and without missing a beat Indy says, “They got us”, the gag being a callback to ‘The Last Crusade’. The game is full of moments like this that will make fans of the franchise smile.
Now, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a great game on the PS5 and it adds some really great features that help it shine even above its Xbox counter-part. Let’s start with the controller improvements; one of the biggest things that sets the PS5 apart from the Xbox is its controller that is filled with as much tech as The Six Million Dollar Man. I am not a fan of the adaptative triggers and this game didn’t change that, but players will experience tension in the triggers when using Indy’s whip as well as resistance when using guns (which is few and far between, this game is not a shooter).
The biggest improvement here is with the haptics, and as we know the PS5 controller shines brightest in this department. Feeling the wind as you rid down a zip-line, feeling the weight of punches along with the superb sound effects all of this almost made me forget how much I do not like FPS on the PlayStation controller…. ALMOST. I think the only real issue I have with Indiana Jones is the broken stealth segments. I understand why they are there, but sometimes guards have the sight of an eagle and others they can be looking right at you as you pick up a paper and wont bat an eye. The nice thing is that I was never met with a game over for getting caught, I could run or beat up those who saw me and moved on.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an absolute gem of a game and it shines brightest on the PS5. Yep, that feels weird to say since this game is made by team Green; but by leveraging the added tech the PlayStation 5 has the team made the game feel like it was made especially for it. All the work that MachineGames has put into it really made the game shine in a way that; well, it just can’t on the Xbox. If you have been waiting for the PS5 release then I am here to tell you that this game is going knock your socks off and I am not even on a PS5 Pro; I can only imagine how well it handles an adventure of this magnitude.
