Mighty Fight Federation (PS4) Review

IT’S NO USE!

Oh man I really wanted to like this game. The characters are a mix of recognizable faces (such as ToeJam and Earl) and new blood and the new characters are really well thought out and designed. The fighting even feels good but there are some major downfalls in this game.

Mighty Fight Federation is a 3D fighting game not dissimilar to Power Stone. Players can move around the arena and trade blows with up to three opponents and for the most part, it works fine. I think four player free for all can be too hectic visually to determine what is going on, but the same can be said sometimes with Super Smash Bros. I think the main thing that separates Mighty Fight Federation is that MFF is pure combat: there are no items to help in combat.

PLATFORMS: PS4, PS5, SWITCH, XB1, PC
MSRP: $29.99
PRICE I’D PAY: $14.99

This seemed fine until I faced off against the character Originelle who spammed and stunlocked me into defeat multiple times. The balancing in this game is so poor that CEO and Originelle are really the only feasible choices and Originelle will steamroll CEO in one on one because she can shoot out lasers straight below her meaning as long as the player using Originelle stays right over their opponent when they get knocked down they can time their next attack right as the other player is getting back up.

In the single player “Arcade” mode I finished the final boss (and multiple battles) without taking a single attack. Arcade mode is also really the only mode because Mission mode is essentially just more Tutorial. I didn’t even bother checking online because of how unbalanced everything is. If this game had been like Smash Bros. and had items to even out the fight, I could maybe forgive it but this is the first time I have ever noticed how bad the balancing in a fighting game is.

Also the team announced Riki, Kunio (both from the River City/Kunio games), and Miriam (from Bloodstained) but none of them are in the game currently and once again the game is so skewed in favor of Originelle that it would be hard to get excited about playing as them.

I would pass on Mighty Fight Federation despite the huge amounts of charm this game has. Even the music is good. Unfortunately, it’s just an unbalanced mess.
