HOW?
I got this game for review in November. It is the end of February. How is this game still broken? It’s not even broken in the way it was broken before; it’s broken differently now and somehow worse.
Okay so I like Sacred 2, it’s a good mix of Diablo and Oblivion with a sense of humor that’s sometimes groan worthy but it’s neat. If you like that basic description, you’ll likely enjoy Sacred 2 and the Xbox version is fully co-op on the same console and the original PC version of Sacred 2 Gold (included with the remaster) works fine so I do recommend playing those. It’s nothing amazing, but it’s fun and ultimately, I think that’s what most games should be.

MSRP: $19.99
Platforms: PC (reviewed), Xbox, PlayStation
Sacred 2 Gold plays a whole lot better than Sacred 2 Remaster and I’m dumbfounded on how that could be. Sacred 2 on PC is not controller compatible so that’s the main gripe one could find and while playing it again (I owned it previously on Steam) to compare for this review I did have some graphical bugs in menu and UI but a restart fixed that; I believe it stemmed from me messing with the graphical options to be clear, it didn’t happen while playing. It runs on Windows 11 seemingly fine and even if it didn’t I wouldn’t
Sacred 2 Remaster adds controller support and seemingly breaks everything. When I booted this up in November the controller broke menus and I had to use mouse and keyboard in order to not break it. Inventory screens worked poorly as well but I’m unsure if that’s from the total redesign or the same issues I had making a character so take that as is. I load it up today (February 24th, 2026) and mouse and keyboard won’t navigate menus so I switch to controller and it’s fine, but when I start playing I can use mouse and keyboard again… sure.
I’m dumbfounded. I am perplexed. How is it this bad?
But what really burns is that the controls for controllers were nailed down already in the 360/PS3 era and yet this feels like I’m using a controller in place of the mouse and keyboard which I could use but then why play this remaster? I heard this remaster has other issues too but even if those are all gone now, in four months this game still has more issues than the original to run so why would I or anyone else choose this version on PC?

I will say the textures seem to be better in the remaster, but so marginally that I barely noticed until I placed two screenshots next to another which then highlighted the weird, desaturated colors. The redone UI is fine, definitely more console friendly, but also way more in your face in comparison to the original. Also, the pre-rendered cutscene at the beginning of the game looks worse in the remaster. It’s a mixed bag.
Ultimately this “remaster” feels pointless, but due to the glaring issues this release has I’m not interested in playing further. I was going to hook up my 360 to compare to the original console release as well but I’m not very much interested in making my short time spent with this remaster feel worse. If this is the only way one can play Sacred 2 it may be worth it, but for people like myself who have any other option this is still a pass nearly 4 months later. Oof.
